Stuff At Night, December, 2003
Looking for a good time that's "wicked bizahrre"?
Then check out the Bazaar Bizarre today at the Dilboy
VFW in Davis Square, Somerville. Rock kids, art freaks,
and underground hipsters will be converging on this
event to shop and strut their way through a not-so-traditional
holiday craft fair. Let funky touches like theremin
carols, "celebrity" DJs (including Maura
and Hilken from Punk Rock Aerobics), and punk-rock
makeovers put you in the mood to browse the handcrafted,
one-of-a-kind gifts sold by local artisans. It runs
from 4 to 10 today (well, actually Dec 13, 2003);
visit www.bazaarbizarre.org for more information.

DIY Capitalism
Have you started to grow weak in the knees at
the thought of the oncoming holiday season? The sheer
horror of facing the Mall? Never fear, young hipster:
The Bazaar Bizarre is your one stop shopping expedition
for the season. Started in 2001 by local artists/musicians
who were fed up with so-called "granny-church-style
craft fairs," the Bazaar is truly a DIY showcase
of local talent. Expect over 35 different vendors
with their own unique craft, ranging from silk-screened
paintings, handbags, assorted stained glassware, aprons
and potholders, and even a "DIY Dubya Makeover
Madness" booth which we'll leave to your imagination.
Of course, no DIY craft fair would be complete without
good music: witness the joy of "theremin carols"
by local DJ and rocker Jon Bernhardt, a host of local
"celebrity" DJs like your girls from Punk
Rock Aerobics, and Mishima USA's Arto Payaslian. The
Bazaar Bizarre takes place December 13, 2003 from
4pm to 10pm at the Somerville Dilboy VFW. www.bazaarbizarre.org
