Made in Lowell – Meet the 2012 BBB Vendors!

Hi Everyone! I’m so happy to share another vendor with you today! Who wants to know all about Made in Lowell?

First things first: What’s your name, what’s your business name, where are you from, and where are you currently located/crafting?

I’m Liz Smith, my business is Made in Lowell out of a studio at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, Massachusetts.

How did you get your start? Please tell us a little bit about how your business went from an idea to what is is today.

I’ve always been a maker and an artist. I went to school for fine arts, printmaking, painting, sculpture. Now I sculpt little objects out of felt and polymer clay!

What inspires you the most to create?

Color and material. Starting with raw materials and transforming them! Seasons and trends.

What are your favorite materials to work with?

Polymer clay and wool! And glass beads and vintage buttons.

Do you have a favorite color palette?

I’m crazy about mid century modern palettes: orange, gold, brown, aqua.

Who are some of your favorite indie artist/crafters and why do you love them?

I love them ALL! No, I’m serious :) I have a TV show on local access where I interview my maker friends about their creative enterprises. https://vimeo.com/madeinlowell/videos I have so much admiration for people who are driven to create with their hands and run a business as well. It’s so hard!

Any exciting future plans or developments in the works for your business? (Nothing TOP-SECRET, of course!)

Just making new products, tweaking best sellers, keeping a steady course :)

What are some other things you like to do when you are not busy making awesome stuff?

I read, play Words with Friends, I’m a Twitter addict.

What are the top 3 reasons someone shopping at the BBB 2012 should be sure to stop by your table?

1) Fun colors! 2) I will smile at you :) 3) My goods are sweet without being cloying, whimsical without being trivial, my craftsmanship will please you.

What is your favorite background noise to listen to while working?

PODCASTS. All day, all the time.

Where do you (craft) work?

I have a studio in an old textile mill in downtown Lowell, MA

What is your favorite mythical beast and what do you think their favorite crafty past time is?

Unicorn! Spinning rainbow yarn.

What advice would you give to a new vendor selling at the BBB for the first time?

Smile! Have fun! Meet your crafty heroes and buy their goods!

Thanks Liz!
