Hello, friends of the BBB!

Today we get to learn a little bit about Debbie of Glitterlimes, maker of super cool and unique jewelry made from real (yes, real!) fruit and candy!

Hi there! First things first: What’s your name, what’s your business name, where are you from, and where are you currently located/crafting?

Debbie Tuch, Glitterlimes, I am from Philadelphia and San Francisco, I currently residing in Brooklyn.

How did you get your start? Please tell us a little bit about how your business went from an idea to what is is today.

I was making faux opals at RISD and there was a boom and a bang and it got all over my lime! When I moved to SF after school, I would frequent the markets, the farms, the international food stores, and find amazing produce and candies from around the world. I was hooked and have been for 16 years.

What inspires you the most to create?
Amazing design in nature and in iconic foods we all love and eat.

What are your favorite materials to work with?

Food, glitter, and resin.

20202

Do you have a favorite color palette?

Light blues and purples.

Who are some of your favorite indie artist/crafters and why do you love them?

I am very fond of the art comics of my talented friends. Crafters I love include Elyse Allen, a wonderful knit designer with elegant designs fit for a queen and a super hero.

Any exciting future plans or developments in the works for your business? (Nothing TOP-SECRET, of course!)

I will be doing more retail, and glitter parties!! (e.d. note: UM, PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME MORE ABOUT THESE GLITTER PARTIES PLEASE AND THANK YOU)

What are some other things you like to do when you are not busy making awesome stuff?

I love to dance, sing, and be outside. I love to cook things out of the extra fruits from my harvests. This leads to potlucks.

What are the top 3 reasons someone shopping at the BBB 2012 should be sure to stop by your table?

If you havent experienced a Glitterlime, you should see the magic.

What is your favorite background noise to listen to while working?

Motown, 60′s intergalactic music, disco.

Where do you (craft) work?

At my studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

What is your favorite mythical beast and what do you think their favorite crafty past time is?

My favorite beast is the chimera. I think they save people and give them the ride of their life.

What advice would you give to a new vendor selling at the BBB for the first time?

Make some items affordable, wow them, and think of things you would like to buy.
