Witch City Wicks – Meet the 2012 BBB Vendors!

Liz from Witch City Wicks was kind enough to answer our nosy questions! Check out what she had to say:

How did you get your start? Please tell us a little bit about how your business went from an idea to what is is today.
My business began as a hobby gone awry! I started making candles for myself a few summers ago as a craft I could make with my hands (instead of being on a computer all the time). I was making so many candles that I was giving them away to friends. Fortuitously, one of my friends approached a local store and told the owner about my candles and the next thing I knew I had a business!

What inspires you the most to create?
Honestly, it’s my customer’s reaction to my products that inspire me to continue on. Some are VERY passionate about their candles!

What are your favorite materials to work with?
Testing out new fragrances for candles is my favorite thing, followed by trying out different glass containers to make them in.

Do you have a favorite color palette?
I really love making candles in all colors, but my favorites have been autumn and winter color palettes.

Who are some of your favorite indie artist/crafters and why do you love them?
I’m so inspired by everyone I meet. There are FAR too many to name!

Any exciting future plans or developments in the works for your business? (Nothing TOP-SECRET, of course!)
This year has been one of experimentation and really trying to get out there in front of people at every opportunity. Next year I hope to continue to grow and offer even more unique and fun candles.

What are some other things you like to do when you are not busy making awesome stuff?
I’m actually a full time mom of two little girls so I’m ALWAYS busy! I fit making candles into my spare time, but when I’m not doing that I exercise my artistic eye and crank out some paintings here and there.

What are the top 3 reasons someone shopping at the BBB 2012 should be sure to stop by your table?

  1. Candles might seem cliche for gifts, but a lot of my candles are REALLY cool, some quirky. The great thing about candles is that they really do make great gifts for just about anyone.
  2. It’s my *first* Winter Bizarre Bazaar!
  3. I love meeting and chatting with new people (no purchase necessary)!

What is your favorite background noise to listen to while working?
Sometimes my background noise is just the tv in the background, but music-wise it could be Stevie Wonder, anything down-tempo/ambient to something like Type O Negative or Nine Inch Nails. I’m all over the place when it comes to music.

Where do you (craft) work?
I make all my candles in my kitchen!

What is your favorite mythical beast and what do you think their favorite crafty past time is?
I’ve always liked Medusa. She’s badass! Perhaps when she wasn’t turning people to stone she was making some lovely floral wreaths.

Thanks, Liz! We can’t wait to snatch up some of your awesome candles on December 16th!
