Hi, and thanks for stopping by to check out another Union Made Vendor profile! Today we’re getting to know Pressbound, a graphic design, letterpress and book arts studio located north of Boston in Beverly, Massachusetts, run by Melissa Gruntkosky.

How did Pressbound get started? In Melissa’s own words….
“I started Pressbound after quitting an in-house design job in order to learn letterpress, bookbinding and do freelance design work. My first printed project found me tracing my Polish American roots and using hand carved wycinanki imagery. Since then I’ve used Polish folk art as one of my main sources of inspiration but I also enjoy working with textures, geometrical patterns, exploring ways to combine traditional printing techniques with digital ones, or re-purposing old letterpress plates that are so amazing they deserve a new life as a card or journal cover. All of Pressbound’s work is produced by hand in a charming old mill building in Beverly, MA.”

Wow, well the layers of authenticity with a modern eye are evident in all the pieces that come from Pressbound. There is an old-world feel to these products that makes them classic as well as classy.
One quick browse through the Pressbound blog reveals that Melissa has been hard at work perfecting the designs she produces for her company for over 5 years. She’s managed to build an astounding number of offerings including stationery printed on antique presses, books bound and stitched by hand, and digital art prints produced on a professional grade archival printer. She’s currently been working on adding buttons and magnets, coasters, and a few other new products. Here’s hoping we get our hands on some of those at next week’s Union Made event!

It’s a little bit country, a little bit retro, and a-lot-a bit awesome.

Come check out an entire tent filled with Pressbound products at the Union Made event – Sunday, June 24th!
See you there, friends!
