2011 Summer Vendor Profile #20 – Sweetie Pie Press & Unflattering Portraits

For a lot of crafty biz people there is a common definition of “living the dream” – spending all your time and funds wandering the country, making your art and participating in fairs. For the past five years, Becky of Sweetie Pie Press and Reverend Aitor of the Misanthrope Specialty Co. have been doing just that. Spending the entire summer touring North America vending at shows and visiting shops, speaking at lectures and having adventures? Now THAT is a dream.

SPP specializes in pinback buttons, installations, papergoods and crochet wares. Her work brings to mind the early crafty zine-y days and she has also worked with some pretty incredible artists on special curated button series.

It’s a focused project made up of important, precious, well-crafted things. The bits and pieces that are for sale are part of a larger whole that “is aimed at widening the perceptions of indie craft possibilities.”

ON THE OTHER HAND…

We all have those days. Hideous, unfortunate days when our faces don’t work and our hair is from another planet. Reverend Aitor would like to draw your portrait so you remember what you look like on those days. This project has a name too… Unflattering Portraits.

The portraits are EXPERTLY executed and very very accurate, you just happen to look totally terrible. Features are exaggerated, flaws are embellished – all the stuff you want in a drawing of yourself.

IMPORTANT! If you want to have an Unflattering Portrait of yourself, your loved one, your baby, or maybe your dog, be sure to SIGN UP NOW for a reserved appointment! You can sign up in the comments section HERE.

Booth #9 has a little bit of everything. Sweetie Pie Press & Reverend Aitor are sure to have something to raise your spirits or destroy your self esteem.

Oh and this is the very first Boston-area stop for Canada-based SPP and MSC so make sure to give them a warm welcome!
